What happens when you stop forcing yourself?

In this life we seem to be always pushing ourselves. Setting goals, to create a life that is bigger, better, more adventurous. We want to earn more money, gain more followers or buy more stuff. But is this really what your life is about? Is it really about working a lot, or is it about living a life?

Life is magical

Or is there something else, something more magical, a life that flows and gives you peace and serenity? As a searcher for peace and quiet I have been on this journey for quite some time and I must say, I am not always the one who is the best in surrendering to magic, but when I do, boy my life is in flow! And I love it. I love the idea of flowing through my days, doing work that I love, surrounded by people that inspire me. Or just doing nothing and surrender to whatever comes my way.

Forcing or flowing?

In my life it always seems to be one way or the other. Or I am forcing myself to do the things I think I have to do, or I am in a constant state of flow and let the world move around me, while I do my own thing. Last weeks I was trying to force myself in to doing things that I didn’t really want to do, but I thought them necessary. By following my to do list, I lost my flow. I lost my power of surrendering to life. When this happens I do not become a very happy person. Which influences the people around me as well.

Life is about living

Today when I was talking to my business coach I listened to myself while I was talking about the things I thought I needed to do. And I realised that is not the way I want to live or work. For me life is about living, not about working really hard. Even though we all need money to ‘survive’, to buy or pay for the things we need, I do not want to give up the things I love. And what I love the most about life is to feel free to do what I want.

Following my own rhythm

This is especially important because I need a lot of time alone ànd I have a changing energy level. So one day I am very active, the next day I need a lot of peace and quiet. So it is important for me to never have to force myself into doing something. But that is so against what I have learned in the last 40 years of my life. It was always about setting goals and deadlines and about reaching these goals. And I know that goals can help you to get somewhere, but how much of your health and wellbeing are you giving up to get there.

Set yourself free

What is life about anyway? Is it about living and experiencing the magic of being alive, or is it about working in a job you don’t like, but gives you the money to buy everything you want? When I stopped working just for money I realised that you can get a lot of things in life for free. Especially health, wellbeing and happiness and loving people around you. You can’t buy these things. But the funny thing is, they will arrive when you stop working really hard to gain money for things you don’t really need.

Go with the flow

When you stop forcing yourself life is about going with the flow. You don’t have to eat chocolate because you feel drained or emotional, you don’t have to drink alcohol to relax and you don’t have to go out for dinner or order your food every day, because you have a lot of time to cook healthy meals.

When you stop forcing yourself, you will start to see life for what it truly is and you start living instead of surviving. You will go with the flow and just be.
